The initiative involves the integration of Skynode S strike kits developed by the US-based firm Auterion into drones manufactured by the Ukrainian company SkyFall. According to Ars Technica, the system allows human operators to manually navigate the drone into a combat zone, designate a target within a half-mile radius, and subsequently activate a fire-and-forget terminal guidance mode. This transition to autonomous homing helps overcome potential signal interference that often complicates manual control in electronic warfare environments.
Scaling efforts are currently underway, with plans to distribute 50,000 of these AI-enhanced units in the coming months. By automating the terminal phase of the flight, the technology reduces the cognitive load on operators and increases the probability of neutralizing mobile targets.
