Eve Air Mobility has reached a significant milestone in the development of its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The Brazilian company, which operates under the umbrella of airframer Embraer, confirmed that its engineering prototype successfully completed a partial transition flight during the latter half of July. This maneuver, which involves switching from vertical lift provided by overhead propellers to forward flight supported by the aircraft's wings, represents one of the most complex engineering hurdles in the electric air taxi sector.
During the test, which lasted approximately three minutes, the prototype reached an altitude of 90 feet and achieved a speed of 30 knots. Notably, this flight marked the first time the aircraft's rear pusher propeller was activated while airborne. According to FlightGlobal, the company implemented critical modifications to the flight control software during a recent period of downtime to facilitate these maneuvers, ensuring the system can effectively synchronize the transition from lifter propellers to wing-based lift. Engineering leads noted that the flight performance matched internal expectations, providing a solid foundation for the remainder of the testing phase.
As the program moves forward, the development team plans to gradually increase forward speeds to test the limits of the flight control laws. The primary objective remains the demonstration of a full transition to wingborne flight before the end of the year. Successfully hitting this target is essential for the company's roadmap, as it pushes toward a broader goal of achieving formal aircraft certification by late 2028. Future tests will focus on refining the synchronization between the lifting fans and the main pusher propulsion system to ensure safe and stable performance during all flight phases.
