Elixir Aircraft and Turbotech have entered a memorandum of understanding to transition the Elixir Turbine aircraft from its demonstrator phase into industrial development, according to AVweb. The agreement, signed on July 22, outlines a joint strategy for production integration, ongoing aircraft refinement, and formal certification processes through the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Technical development of the project has progressed rapidly over the past 18 months. The turbine engine underwent its first ground test in February 2025, followed by the aircraft’s inaugural flight in June 2025. This initial flight-test campaign provided the data necessary for the companies to move forward with the program. Arthur Léopold-Léger, president and co-founder of Elixir Aircraft, noted that the turbine variant will expand the company’s current fleet offering, emphasizing lower operating costs and compatibility with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
The platform combines Turbotech’s TP-R90 turbine engine with Elixir’s proprietary Carbon OneShot composite airframe. This design is specifically tailored for flight training operators seeking the durability of turbine propulsion and extended intervals between engine overhauls. Turbotech co-founder Damien Fauvet indicated that the collaboration leverages years of previous technical work and reflects the growing operational maturity of Turbotech’s engine technology in the U.S. and European markets.
